Osmose
week

Playlist by alban aka le disquaire du dimanche, running osmose

Summer is well and truly here. To mark the occasion, we organised a little concert on the balcony of our Nantes boutique on the evening of 21 June. Hayden Besswood gave us a taste of his home-made psychedelic pop, while Alban wiggled our ears in shop with his latest selection of music. As we don't do things by halves, this weekend (21 to 24 June) we're hosting a box of vinyls, carefully chosen by Alban to match the theme of our collection: 'Postcards'. We'd like to share some of them with you right now.

" Between lyrical flights from the ends of the earth and the imaginary jaunts of a city dweller, the notion of travel is particularly interesting in a musical selection. Depending on your point of view, you can set off on an adventure in many different ways. And that's what this eclectic playlist for OLOW is all about. 18 projects that take us on a journey, in suitcases of varying sizes. "

Sheldon is the figure who best embodies the 75th session French rap collective. He is both producer and rapper, and with Ilôt we meet him in his daily wanderings.

Another collective, another atmosphere. Benin International Musical released BIM#1 in 2018. A mix of Afro and electronic music in which Samitati from Nantes played a part. When can we expect BIM#2?

African Rare Groove is a compilation of tracks from many African countries. What they have in common is that groove or funk is the predominant style. A diverse range from the Nigerian scene to South Africa and Mali.

Niteroy, which refers to a small town near Rio de Janeiro, is the artist name of a young Breton with Brazilian roots. With Dia de Chuva he offers us tropical pop tinged with bossa nova.

Let's stay in Brazil with Leonardo Marques and his sublime Early Birds, released on the Nantes-based label 180g. A fine example of what contemporary music from South America has to offer.

South America has also conquered Mandy Lerouge who, in her project La Madrugada, pays tribute to the music of Argentina. She fell in love with these rhythms and wanted to highlight this culture. A true cross-border success story that only music can produce.

Borders also exploded with Warda, the great Arab voice of the 20th century. Born in Paris in 1939 to Algerian and Lebanese parents, Warda managed to convey her emotions through her exceptional voice until 2012, when she died in Cairo.

Another diva of the 20th century, Fairuz left her mark on Lebanon and the world with her lyrical flights. Here she is at her debut, in 1957, at the Baalbek International Festival.

It's hard not to include his son Ziad Rahbani in this selection. This outstanding composer is behind the music for the 1974 film L'Auberge du Bonheur. He has also been involved in many other projects, including some disconcerting jazz-funk productions.

Rébecca M'Boungou leads the group Kolinga, which was born in the Basque country. They recently released Legacy, a groovy opus with diverse influences. A sort of jazzy afro-pop. A fascinating album!

The Infiné label continues to win us over, from Rone to Vanessa Wagner to Sabrina Bellaouel. Back in 2020, the Parisian unveiled a hybrid double EP with oriental accents, where neo-soul has as much place as electronic music.

Malian composer Oumou Sangaré, who has become a benchmark in her field, has let talented artists remix Mogoya, released in 2017. The tracklist includes Sampha and St Germai

In a different but equally danceable style, the remixes of tracks by the music group Zoufris Maracas were particularly successful. At the controls: Blundetto, Pedro and Voilaaa!

There's another change of aesthetic with Israeli-Persian singer Liraz, who released Roya, her third album, last year. Produced discreetly to protect the safety of her Iranian and Israeli musicians, this project is a good example of the artist's growing popularity, as she likes to mix traditional instruments with modern sounds.

Pyschedelic pop à la française is what Bonnie Banane does so admirably well. Sexy Planet is exquisite and will delight you, if it hasn't already.

We end this selection with the group Cortex, who arrived in 1975 in UFO mode. Troupeau Bleu is the first LP by Alain Mion and his friends, jazz-funk like you've never heard before in France. Now legendary and sampled the world over, this record is a must-have!
