Quentin Monge is a French artist with whom we have already collaborated on several occasions. In this 2.15-minute film, directed by his friend Yuuki Shimizu, we delve into his creative process, imbued with poetry and escapism. It shows how his art and nature intertwine perfectly, creating a world that is so specific to his work, and which can be seen in every piece he has designed with us for the Canopée collection.

Discussion with video artist Yuuki Shimizu

Yuuki is a director of photography born and raised in Japan. He began his creative journey with photography and gradually discovered filmmaking, realising that a series of moving images has the power to inspire others and make a difference in the world.

Can you present yourself in a few words ?

My name is Yuuki Shimizu and I've been working in the image industry for around ten years, specialising in Fpv drones for the last 5 years.

How did you meet with Quentin ?

As we're both surfers and live in the same place, we got on really well over the course of our sessions.

You have a year-long filming project, can you tell us more about it?

Last year we came up with the idea of working together on a film project based on his vision of the creative process.

At the moment it's all still being written, but it's coming along nicely. We have other projects in common that we're thinking about.

Do you have any anecdotes about the shoot?

At the sunset spot on the plain, we unfortunately set up the set close to a large wasp nest. Quentin was being stung every 2 minutes without me noticing much as I was absorbed in taking the picture.

Quel est ton rapport à l'univers de la forêt ?

I literally live in the middle of a forest where my first neighbour is several kilometres away. Like Quentin, I've had quite a few experiences in the city but I've always come back to my forest. Its tranquillity and timelessness inspire me enormously. I only really feel myself in a natural environment.
