A train to Leucate
with romain lallement, aka lenparrot
It is with the song of the cicadas in the background that the man from Nantes produced his third album. Formerly Rhum for Pauline, Romain Lallement in the city, Lenparrot on stage, invites us to Leucate, in Occitania. An 8h30 long journey, which allows the mind to wander to the rhythm of Alice Phoebe Lou, Badbadnotgood or LCD Soundsystem.
Last spring I went to the Corbières to record my third album. Twice I took the train to La Bergerie, not far from Leucate - where Nina Savary, Emma Mario and Vincent Pieuvre, with whom I made this record, live.
The journey from Nantes is a little epic of about eight and a half hours. Leaving at 7.55am, we arrive at 4.24pm. My playlist therefore lasts as long as the journey. Having made it afterwards, I've put in everything I really listened to in March (I remember discovering Alice Phoebe Lou's album Glow that day, still on the platform in Nantes station) but also songs I've discovered since then at La Bergerie, during sunny car journeys, while cooking at lunchtime or in the evening after dinner. It also includes songs by Emma, Nina, Vincent and our friends Julien Gasc and Lætitia Sadier with whom we went on tour in July.
During this day linking my city to theirs, I had time to think at length about the record we were going to make - how to articulate my songs in the best way, what I wanted to tell in it, the colours that would compose it, the musical, pictorial and cinematographic references that had shaped it as well as the memories that were told in it.
This 117 track mixtape can be listened to like a diary, an inner monologue, a conversation ahead of a forthcoming record.
